Sparks from the 7 Worlds, Steve Eckels, 2003 Music Reviews by Scott Prinzing
"Few public schools in the country have a full-time guitar
teacher on their faculty, let alone one as accomplished as Flathead High
School’s Steve Eckels. Eckels has written a dozen guitar music and
instructional books with accompanying CDs for Mel Bay Publications, the
leader in the field. He also has recorded several solo guitar albums,
as well as collaborative projects ranging from classical to jazz to Native
American music. Settling in Kalispell in 1999, he eventually recorded
Sparks from the 7 Worlds, all classical guitar masterpieces. The peculiar
title came to Eckels in a dream in which he interpreted the seven notes
on the musical scale as worlds of their own. The music is not arranged
chronologically, but the liner notes by guitar historian Graham Wade are.
Eckels travels through the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical eras as
well as the Romantic and twentieth century." |
